GoAir to move departures to terminal 1B

Air India to move to Mumbai airport T2 from Oct 1

BS Reporter Mumbai:

Air India domestic operations will shift from terminal 1A to Mumbai airport's T2 from October 1 while GoAir departures will move to terminal 1B (now used by IndiGo, Jet Airways and SpiceJet) from September 25 as a part of phased wise planned transition to T2.

However GoAir arrivals will continue at terminal 1A like present. This could be due to capacity constraints at terminal 1B, sources said. MIAL has not indicated its long term plan how it plans to use terminal 1A.

Initially, GoAir too was to be shifted to T2 along with Air India but the airline opposed the plan citing high cost of operations in T2. Of the domestic airlines only Vistara operates from T2 at present.

Jet Airways is likely to shift its domestic operations to T2 by next February while IndiGo has expressed interest to continue operations at terminal 1B.

"Terminal 2 went through a comprehensive security sweep as well as the final stages of AOR (Airport Operational Readiness) for the domestic operations of Air India, keeping in mind the shifting of operations to a different Terminal. Mumbai International Airport Limited also undertook familiarisation processes for T2 for its ground handling staff, security and the employees, to help get them acquainted with the new technologically advanced systems, facilities and processes for smooth and seamless transition of all stakeholders from T1 to T2," MIAL said in a statement today.
