Alstom T&D India bags order to renovate Bihar grid

Contract is worth Rs 51 cr, Alstom T&D India to replace ageing, defective substation equipment with new, advanced technology

Alstom T&D India, a unit of French engineering group Alstom, today said it has bagged a Rs 50.66 crore order to renovate and modernise grid substations in Bihar.

"Alstom T&D India has secured an order worth Rs 506.6 million to renovate and modernise 132/33KV grid substations across various locations for Bihar State Power Transmission Company Ltd (BSPTCL)," the company said in a statement here.

Bihar is looking to invest in revamping the power sector in the state. The state government plans to replace the obsolete infrastructure, increasing power capacity and providing reliable and uninterrupted electricity to its 11 crore people.
 

The project will strengthen the transmission system and enhance power evacuation capacity under India's 12th Five Year Plan.

"Under this contract, Alstom T&D India will replace ageing and defective substation equipment with new, advanced technology including 132 kV and 33kV outdoor circuit breaker, isolator, lightning arrestors and relay control panels," it said.

The new equipment will strengthen the substations and hence, stabilise the transmission network in Bihar. Major equipment will be supplied from Alstom T&D India's various manufacturing facilities across the country.
