Cummins India on Tuesday inaugurated its new high horsepower engine plant in the special economic zone (SEZ) at its mega site in Phaltan.

This is 7th facility to open at the mega site which is said to be company's largest high horsepower manufacturing site in the world.

This facility is spread across an area of 39.5 acre and houses engine assembly, testing, painting and machining. This site will build the QSK 23 tier I and II engines and is capable of producing 3,000 units per year with a scaleable production capacity without any big investment. So far the QSK 23 series engines were being imported from Komatsu, Japan and now will be manufactured here for the world markets.

This plant will also manufacture QSK 23 tier IV and QSK 60 engines that will comply with the 2015 emission norms. This range of engines will cater to power generation, mining, industrial, construction in the domestic and global markets.

“The Megasite was conceived six years ago. This new facility will put us in the right perspective in the export markets. We will continue to invest in manufacturing and technology,” said Anant J Talaulicar, managing director of Cummins Group.

Once fully operational, the plant will employ around 350 workers.
