Sankaran quit Wipro earlier this month; to head IMS, cloud computing consulting for Dell

Computers manufacturer Dell Inc has appointed former Wipro veteran Anand Sankaran as its president and head of infrastructure services and cloud computing consulting business.

Sankaran had quit from Wipro earlier this month after spending 25 years at the information technology (IT) services major. At the time of resigning, he was the senior vice president for Wipro Infotech and global infrastructure services at Wipro. Sankaran had helped Wipro Infotech grow from a fledgling business unit to a Rs 7,000 crore strategic division of Wipro’s IT Business.

Dell had in 2011 hired Suresh Vaswani, former chief operating officer of Wipro, who had quit the Bangalore-based company after it moved away from its joint-CEO model and appointed T K Kurien as a single chief executive. Vaswani is currently the president of Dell Services.

The Texas-headquartered company has hired several other officials from Wipro, especially for its application development and business process outsourcing division, which is closest to what Indian IT companies do. Among others, Dell acquired Ashutosh Vaidya from Wipro, where he was head of the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) unit. Vaidya is currently vice president and general manager - applications and BPO at Dell Services.

Tanvir Khan was also brought to Dell from Wipro, where he was heading sales for the BPO unit. Sid Nair, Sameer Kishore and Raman Sapra are other senior talents that have moved from Wipro to Dell.
