GVK Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) Chief Executive Officer Venkat Changavalli has quit the company.
Changavalli was associated with EMRI since its launch in April 2005. EMRI, which provides ‘108’ ambulance services across 10 states in a public-private partnership, was a joint venture between Satyam Computer Services and the Andhra Pradesh government, with the former contributing the technology and the latter giving the financial support.
The system was supported by Satyam founder B Ramalinga Raju till he confessed to financial irregularities at the company. EMRI, too, suffered collateral damage.
The GVK group later partnered with EMRI to continue the free ambulance services.
As many as 10 million emergency victims have been provided free emergency response services so far. “I had the privilege of building EMRI, the innovative healthcare delivery model, launching 2,800 ambulances across 10 states and responding to 12,000 emergencies per day, with a passionate team of 17,000,” Changavalli said. “I have been associated with EMRI since its inception in April 2005 and decided to move ahead now,” he said, adding he was awaiting a new assignment in the corporate sector. He will also be on the board of State Bank of Hyderabad and other companies. Changavalli said he wanted to spend more time in teaching and research. He was due to retire this September.
