A massive fire has engulfed the premises of Syngene, the contract research subsidiary of Biocon, on Monday evening, possibly due to a chemical leak.
The Karnataka Fire Department tweeted that it has sent over eight fire tenders to quell the blaze, shooting over the six storey complex of Biocon on Bengaluru outskirts. The extent of damage is still unknown.
"A fire broke out at one of Syngene's labs after office hours. No one hurt but fire has damaged labs and equipment. Now under control," tweeted Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar Shaw.
Syngene offers contract research and manufacturing services to global Pharma majors such as Amgen, Bristol Myers Squibb, Abbott Nutrition and Baxter International.
