Odisha mulls subsidised rental for IT start-ups

About 0.45 to 0.5 million square feet space is available for entrepreneurs where they can start operations without hassles

Odisha government plans to formulate a policy for providing subsidised rental to the start-up units in IT space to enhance competitiveness of the new age entrepreneurs.

"In order to make it competitive to work from Bhubaneswar, we are working on a policy to give subsidised rental space to IT entrepreneurs", said PK Jena , principal secretary, state Electronics and IT department at the ' Start UP- Let's Grow'- an interactive session with the Government Dignitaries organised by TiE, Bhubaneswar chapter.

Jena said, the setting up of incubation centre for the ESDM (Electronic System Design and Manufacturing) sector is likely to be cleared by the Union government soon. The centre will be second one in the country after the one established at Delhi University.

Debi Prasad Mishra, minister for Industries, said that the government is going to announce a start-up policy soon and a fund will be created to assist the entrepreneurs.

Describing the proposed start up policy and the new IPR (Industrial Policy Resolution)- 2015 of Odisha as progressive, Rajib Sekhar Sahoo, president, TiE Bhubaneswar requested the state government for creation of Rs 25 crore fund to support the start ups.

In the draft start-up policy, Odisha aims to build start-up ecosystem by providing fiscal and non-fiscal benefits in a transparent and time bound manner. The state government aims to facilitate at least 1000 start ups in the next five years.

Sector-specific incubators will be encouraged in areas such as IT/ITes, electronic system design and manufacturing (ESDM), health care and sanitation, agri-business and food processing, hi-tech farming, tourism, textiles and garments, chemical and petrochemicals, downstream and ancillary. These incubators will be set up by the concerned government department on their own or in partnership with the private sector.
