The Hyderabad based RKP Energy Private Limited has evinced interest to set up a coal-based thermal power plant at Srirampur, near Chhatrapur in Ganjam district with an investment of Rs 500-crore.

The company officials have sought around 90 acres of land in the area for the establishment of 1X120 MW power plant. The officials of the company recently met the district collector Krishan Kumar and sought cooperation in the land acquisition process.

District administration has assured the company all assistance for implementation of the energy project. Apart from a patch of government land, the company needs to purchase land from the private persons. But the exact composition of private and government land in the proposed site would be known only after conducting survey of the area, said a government officer.

Sources said, the company has already obtained clearance from the state government for the implementation of the project. The company expects to get the environment clearance from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) soon after completion of the land acquisition process.

The proposed site is close to an industrial belt which houses Odisha sands complex (OSCOM), a unit of the Indian Rare Earths Limited (IREL) and Gopalpur port. Saraf Agency Private Limited (SAPL) also proposes to set up a titanium dioxide complex near the area with an investment of around Rs 1200 crore.

RKP Energy is now setting up a 420 MW power plant at Ankulapattu village in Nellor district of Andhra Pradesh.
