 "Tech Mahindra to raise headcount to 5,000 in Bhubaneswar")
The headcount would be ramped up to around 5,000 subject to approval of the board and building plan approval. The addition will be a mix of employees from IT and ITeS (IT enabled services) sector, sources said.
The existing infrastructure can house about 3,000 employees. The campus is spread over six acres of land.
Tech Mahindra management is keen to go on an expansion spree due to the low attrition rate in Bhubaneswar and conducive environment here, government officials pointed out.
"Initially, Tech Mahindra would add 1000 employees in the next 2-3 months before ultimately scaling up to 5000. The company has also agreed to our proposal to establish a BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) centre in the city. They will soon give a presentation on their BPO plan shortly", said state IT minister Pranab Prakash Das.
Atin Srivastava, assistant vice president, Tech Mahindra today called on the minister and chief secretary G C Pati at the state secretariat today.
C P Gurnani, chief executive officer and managing director of Tech Mahindra during his visit to the state last year, had revealed the company's plans to invest Rs 500 crore in Odisha over the next five to seven years. In December last year, the company had inaugurated a new block at its existing campus to house 615 more IT professionals taking the total capacity in the state to 1,111. The new block was built at a cost of Rs 55 crore.
However, there are no such plans of the company to go for a second campus at the Infovalley, the second IT park located at the outskirts of the state.
The state government has stressed on opening of BPO centres in Odisha as the government is coming out with a BPO policy that plans to offer Rs one lakh subsidy per seat as capital expenditure for setting up BPO units. Initially 5000-10000 seats will be created at all the STPI (Software Technology Parks of India) locations of the state. The STPI units in the states are located at Bhubaneswar, Balasore, Rourkela and Berhampur.
