1984 riots: 442 persons convicted; 2,706 acquitted

15 accused in two cases are still facing trial

Only 442 people out of the 3,163 persons arrested for the anti-Sikh riots in 1984 in Delhi were convicted for the crimes, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

Minister of State for Home Mullappally Ramachandran said the number of Sikhs killed during 1984 riots was 2,733 as mentioned in the Ahuja Committee report.

"In Delhi, 650 cases were registered in which 3,163 persons were arrested. Out of this, 442 persons were convicted, 2,706 persons acquitted and 15 accused in two cases are still facing trial," he said in reply to a written question.
