Eleven workers were injured in an explosion inside Tata Steel’s Jamshedpur unit on Thursday. While one person sustained serious injuries, others suffered minor wounds, said the company in a release.
“The explosion has taken place in one of the gas holders inside the steel plant at around 3.30 pm,” the release said.
All the injured workers are undergoing treatment at Tata Main Hospital, added the company.

There are several gas holders in the unit and which one has exploded is also yet to be known, he added.
The fire had been extinguished and the gas leakage had been arrested, said the company. All vital installations had been isolated and were safe. There was no danger of any gas leakage from the steel plant, the release said.
“A team, which is part of the company, will be deployed to investigate the cause for explosion,” said the company spokesperson.
The 9.7-million-tonne capacity steel plant of Tata Steel at Jamshedpur is the company’s largest plant.
