Chhattisgarh government is making effort to include the Naya Raipur-the upcoming modern new capital city of the state-in the list of 100 cities that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had planned to develop.
Chief Minister Raman Singh made the formal request in this connection when he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday evening in New Delhi.
The state government wished that the upcoming Naya Raipur should be included in the list of 100 modern cities that Modi Government had planned across the country.

The new proposed cities that would be smart and wireless, free from slums and sensitive to environment had been in the priority list of Modi. This would be the flagship project of the new government at the Centre.
Dr. Singh brought to the prime minister's notice that Naya Raipur is the first integrated township of 21st century and urged him include Naya Raipur in his government's flagship project of developing 100 new modern cities.Modi had outlined the vision of new modern cities during election campaign; referring that it would be his priority project after becoming Prime Minister.
During interaction with the industrialists while on campaign trail, Modi talked about the 100 new cities. One of the industrialists suggested that building new modern cities was not practical. Modi opined that if Malaysia, China and Thailand could do it, why couldn't he.
The Naya Raipur, coming up about 20 km from the existing one, suits the taste of Modi. "In 2012, Modi visited the Naya Raipur and was highly impressed with the model of bringing up a new satellite city," a senior official with the Naya Raipur Development Corporation said.
Modi later sent a team of senior official from Gujarat to study the concept. Naya Raipur spreads over an area of about 8000 hectares and includes 41 villages out of which 27 villages form the core of the Naya Raipur. The population of just 1 village is getting displaced in this renovation of villages for the construction of Naya Raipur.
