Muzaffarnagar riots: Sahai Panel records statement of 125 victims

Commission returned to Lucknow after its six-day stay here from April 16

The one-member Sahai Commission probing into the Muzaffarnagar riots has recorded statements of 125 victims here, district authorities said today.

Constituted by the UP government and led by retired judge of the Allahabad High Court, Justice Vishnu Sahai, the commission completed recording statements of 125 riots victims here yesterday, who had filed complaints along with affidavits with the commission, they said.

The Commission returned to Lucknow after its six-day stay here from April 16.

The government has asked the commission to probe and report on the cause of riots, actions taken by the state government officers at that time, measures taken to prevent riots in future and who were responsible for it.
 
The commission has not submitted its report so far to the government. It was constituted on September 9 to probe the Muzaffarnagar violence starting from Kawal incident on August 27 till September 9.

The commission is likely to submit its report by May 15.
