After establishing schools affiliated to national and international education boards, Calorx Foundation, is all set to launch a university dedicated to teachers' education. The Calorx Teachers’ University (CTU), plans to begin this year with by offering a BA B.Ed, an integrated course to train aspiring teachers.
"The first-of-its-kind university will be starting this year with full time teachers’ programme in B.A. B. Ed, an innovative four year integrated course in English medium from the academic year 2009-2010. It is a full time residential English medium course designed with an aim to train high quality secondary school teachers. After graduating, the students can opt for jobs or can pursue higher education leading to M.A or M.Ed," announced MP Chhaya, chairman of the CTU.
The university will temporarily be located on 3.5 acres of land in GreenWoods campus, on the Sardar Patel Ring Road in Ahmedabad. "In three to five years' time, we intend to shift to the outskirts of Maninagar in Ahmedabad permanenty. While the university falls under the State Act, we are awaiting NCTE approval for the course. The admission notifications will soon be issued once we receive the same. The students will be admitted through an admission test, group discussion and interview," said Shailendra Gupta, convener of CTU.
Gradually, the university plans to add more courses like B.Ed in special education, masters programmes in elementary, special education, MBA in education management, M. Phil and doctorate. The institute will also offer tailor made short term in-service programmes, workshops and seminars for schools that are interested in helping their teachers upgrade their skills.
