Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has constituted a three-member committee to frame a comprehensive New Land Policy for the entire state.
The committee, headed by adviser to chief minister, agriculture, Dr Bhumidhar Barman, would submit recommendations to the government within four months.
The committee would submit recommendations on land use and sustainable land management, land resources conservation and development, identify agricultural and non-agricultural land, resettlement of land, preservation of water bodies and hills, encroachment problem et al within four months.
The chief minister said the policy would incorporate various issues relating to land resettlement for the landless, impoverished and marginalised people and those affected by floods and erosion.
