Union Human Resources Development Minister Arjun Singh today laid the foundation stone of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Simrol, 25 km from here.
The institute will come up on 525 acres of land at Simrol in five years time.
IIT-Indore's academic session for 2009-10 will begin at the Institute of Engineering and Technology of Devi Ahilyabai University here till it is shifted to its own building.
IIT Mumbai's Director and Registrar in the same capacities will look after IIT Indore as well, till new appointments to these posts are made.
With the laying of foundation stone, Indore has become the only city in the country to have both IIT and Indian Institute of Management (IIM).
