M F Farooqui takes charge as DoT secretary

He used to be the special secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Forests

M F Farooqui today took charge as the secretary of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), replacing R Chandrashekhar who retired last month.

Prior to this, Farooqui was the secretary for the Department of Heavy Industries. Farooqui is a 1978 Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer, and has worked in the minister this ministry only once many decades ago as a deputy secretary in the between 1990-91 as a private secretary to the minister.

Farooqui who is a post graduate in Physics has worked in many other departments in varied positions, special secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Forests.

Farooqui’s earlier postings include principal secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu in the Industries Department, joint secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance. He had also worked as Consul General of India in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
