Modi likely to resign as Gujarat CM on May 21

A special session of the state assembly has been called by the Speaker Vaju Vala on May 21 to give a formal send-off to Modi

Prime minister designate Narendra Modi is expected to resign from the post of chief minister of Gujarat on May 21, after the state MLA give him a formal farewell.

A special session of the state assembly has been called by the Speaker Vaju Vala on May 21 to give a formal send off to Modi, who led the BJP's landslide victory in Lok Sabah elections with winning 282 seats.
 
According to BJP sources Modi is likely to be formally elected as the new leader by the party's parliamentary board to lead the BJP-led government. A day after, on May 21, Modi is likely to resign as the chief minister of Gujarat to initiate process for the formation of the BJP-led government at the Centre, they added. Name of the new chief minister of Gujarat is also likely to be announced on May 21 late evening.
 
 
Speaking about the special assembly session, government spokesperson Nitin Patel said, "The proposal for special session by the Speaker has been accepted by all the parties. On May 21, the Gujarat Assembly will give farewell to the CM."
 
"Modi will address the Assembly. Besides, several Assembly members will also speak to mark his tenure," he added.
 
Senior BJP leaders Om Mathur, incharge of Gujarat state has already arrived in Gujarat and is likely to be joined by party general secretary Thawarchand Gehlot on Monday. In presence of these two leaders the state BJP leaders are likely decide on the Modi successor and next chief minister of the state. Party sources have indicated that revenue minister and Modi's close confident Anandi Patel is the front runner for the post. Name of finance minister Nitin Patel and RSS strongman Bhiku Dalsania are also doing rounds.
 
The Gujarat government is also likely to see a big reshuffling in cabinet portfolios as Modi, as chief minister was holding number of key ministries including home, general administration, industries, climate change, ports, information and broadcasting, Nrmada, Kalpasar and Science and Technology.
