The 8th Delhi International Arts Festival begins in New Delhi

The Delhi International Arts Festival, one of India's most prestigious cultural festivals, began in New Delhi today. The Union Ministry of Culture and Indian Council for Cultural Relations are the principal collaborators of the festival .

The inaugural function saw an array of performances by dancers from Turkey, Kazakastan and Malaysia as well as an opening rendition of vedic chants of 'Veda-Shakha Swadhyaya' .

This Iconic festival of the arts which spans two weeks in multiple venues will present dance, music, theatre-both national and international from the most traditional forms to cutting edge contemporary, poetry, literature, exhibitions, handloom and handicrafts, film festivals, a North East carnival, Sufi and Qawwali.

The Festival will see performances by artistic groups from over 14 countries alongside over 2000 Indian artistes.

Among those present at the function included Dr Murali Manohar Joshi, Member of Parliament; Smt Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Union Minister of Women & Child Development; Mr. K. K Mittal, Additional Secretary, Union M/o Culture and Mr. Satish C Mehta, DG, ICCR.

The festival is being held from 28th October to 11th November, 2014.
