Veteran social activist Anna Hazare on Monday criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre for making false assurances to the nation that they would bring back the black money stashed abroad within 100 days.
"They had assured the nation during the elections that they will bring back the black money stashed abroad within 100 days and deposit Rs 15 lakhs in every citizen's bank account. The people voted for them thinking that they will get Rs. 15 lakhs. It has been six months now, forget Rs. 15 lakhs even 15 rupees has not come yet," Anna said.
The veteran social activist asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fulfill the promises that his party made to the people of the country during the Lok Sabha polls.
"What I want to say is that a responsible person does what he says. Narendra ji (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) believes in lord Shri Ram, who is an epitome of truth. When you promised 15 lakhs will be deposited in the bank accounts, then it should have been done," said Anna.
"They should have said this before the polls that retrieving black money is going to take time because of the procedures involved. Why did they say that they will deposit 15 lakhs in everyone's account within 100 days?" he asked.
The anti-corruption crusader had earlier in October expressed his displeasure with the Centre's approach on the back black money issue and issued a stern warning that he would launch a stir if the government fails to deliver on its promise.
