Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuk has called on students to strive to become nation builders.
Addressing a group of 2,315 graduates before the closing ceremony of the national graduate orientation programme (NGOP), Kuensel quoted the king, as saying that Bhutan is a beautiful and blessed country, and it was the duty of the emerging generation not to sit back and enjoy the fruits of their ancestors' labours, but to work to achieve the many national goals still before them.
He told the graduates that there was a need to assess the quality of education in the country, and to ensure that it endows youth with the capability to be independent and successful in future.
On employment, he said the objective should be to improve quality of life of every individual in the country, and to ensure that everyone receives equal opportunities.
He said that only with better ideas and plans, could Bhutan manage its existing valuable resources better.
He said that the most important goal was to protect the sovereignty of the nation as assiduously as their ancestors had done before, and to maintain peace through unity.
Bhutan's cultural heritage, he said, is deeply rooted, and added that it was the responsibility of all to strive to protect national identity.
