Shortly after White House announced that President Barack Obama was set to take off Cuba from the U.S. terror list, the Caribbean nation has welcomed the decision as "fair" and has said that it should not have been on the list in the first place.
The move came amid a normalization of ties between the two countries, reported the BBC.
The Caribbean nation's presence on the terror list had been a key sticking point for Cuba during talks to reopen embassies.
Obama had said on Tuesday that Cuba had not provided support for international terrorism over the last six months and had assured that it will not do so in the future as well.
The decision however, was condemned by Republican Senator Marco Rubio who claimed that the nation remained a state sponsor of terrorist activities.
It came after Obama announced a historic thaw in relations between the two countries in December.
