Star Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe has reportedly equalled the 40-year-old club record of 22 goals in Europe for the club by shooting his eighth goal of the season during his club's 2-0 win over Moldovan side Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League on Thursday in Moldova.
Defoe's goal after 75 minutes equalled his record with Tottenham legend Martin Chivers' record, and along with Jan Vertonghen's first goal of the season after 12 minutes, led the Spurs to victory over Tiraspol, who were champions for 12 of the last 13 seasons and have lost only once in 88 home league games going back to August 2008.
According to the Mirror, the 68-year-old Chivers hailed Defoe, saying that if he has to let go of any of his records, he would not mind letting it go to Defoe, who, he added, is a great goalscorer.
Tiraspol is located in the breakaway state of Transnistria, which is not recognised by the United Nations, the report added.
