The former Secretary of Foreign Affairs Nirupama Rao on Tuesday called the killing of 39 Indians by ISIS in Iraq as 'extremely tragic'.
While talking to ANI at a book launch event at US Embassy, the former diplomat said, "I think it is extremely tragic that these 39 Indians were murdered cold-bloodedly in Iraq. It took a lot of time to come to a closure as the Indians had been missing in Iraq since 4 years."
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, while replying to a question in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, revealed that tragic news to the nation.
The 39 people, most of whom hailed from Punjab, were working on projects near strife-ridden Mosul when they were kidnapped during their evacuation in 2014.
