Fresh US-led coalition air strikes halt IS advance into Syrian town of Kobane

The United States-led forces have reportedly stepped up attacks against the Islamic State (IS) in the Syrian town of Kobane in an attempt to prevent the group from advancing further into the town.

The U.S. said that the coalition has carried out 21 strikes over two days which has slowed the advance of the group that controls parts of the strategic town that falls on the Syrian-Turkish border, reported the BBC.

The coalition had carried out 21 strikes over two days, a sharp increase that slowed IS advance, the US said.

Meanwhile, addressing a meeting of military commanders from 22 countries that have joined the U.S.-led coalition against IS, President Barack Obama has predicted a "long-term campaign" against the group, which holds swathes of Syria and Iraq.
