A suspected American drone attack has reportedly killed four Al Qaeda militants in the southern province of Yemen according to security officials.

A fight between Yemeni forces and Al Qaeda in Abyan province last year had drove away militants from several cities that the outfit had ruled over for a brief period in 2011, Fox News reports.

According to some security officials, the attack took place around dawn in Deyqa in the Arabian province.

President Barack Obama had warned supporters of the country's former longtime ruler Saleh to stop hampering the political process as Al Qaeda in Yemen remains the most dangerous and active branches of the outfit worldwide.

Stating that Yemen's military jets have been tampered with over the past year, the country's new US-backed president Abed Rabbuh Mansour Hadi said that it is either the work of Al Qaeda or the supporters of Saleh holding posts in the government and security, adding that an investigation will be ordered into the matter.

The drone strikes have risen in Yemen since Hadi has been voted to power in last year elections.

Seven military aircraft have been sabotaged and in the third jet crash since Hadi's rule, a military plane on a training exercise had exploded in midair over the country's capital Sana, killing the pilot, the report added.
