Taliban militants have reportedly attacked a court in northern Afghanistan killing at least seven people including prosecutors, who they shot in their offices at close range.
The attack took place in Kunduz, a city that the militants have encircled in recent weeks and attempted to storm but without success, reported the Dawn.
Provincial police spokesman Sayed Sarwar Hussaini said that four attackers, wearing army uniforms, stormed the provincial appeals court and triggered a four-hour-long battle with Afghan security forces.
He said that they first blew up an "explosives-laden car" at the entrance of the court and then entered the building. The militants then killed six court officials and a cop and wounded eight people. The attackers were also killed, Hussaini added.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack on their website and said several court officials and prosecutors were killed but did not elaborate on the motive for the attack.
The court was hearing several cases against Taliban fighters, the report said.
