Aircraft carrier, USS Ranger, which featured in the movie 'Top Gun', will be dismantled for single penny in Brownsville, Texas.

Officials were hoping that the supercarrier could be turned into a museum in the Pacific Northwest, but without any takers, the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) will now scrap it, the Washington Times reported.

According to Fox News, officials for NAVSEA stated that under the contract, the company would be paid 0.01 dollar and the price reflects the net price proposed by International Shipbreaking, which considered the estimated proceeds from the sale of the scrap metal to be generated from dismantling.

The USS Ranger was first commissioned in 1957 and earned battle stars during the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm. The aircraft was decommissioned in 1993.
