China is ready to play a constructive role in helping realize broad-based and inclusive peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan, a foreign ministry spokesperson said on Saturday.
Spokesperson Hua Chunying made the remarks in response to concerns that recent terrorist attacks in Afghanistan may block reconciliation efforts, Xinhua news agency reported.
China consistently supports the "Afghan-led and Afghan-owned" reconciliation process, Hua said, noting that China encouraged and supported peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban.
Hua said China also appreciated the important role that certain parties had played in the peace talks, especially Pakistan.
China hopes those closely involved can stay on track, boost confidence in the peace talks and continue to make efforts to realize peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan, Hua added.
