The Jammu and Kashmir government Friday said it has started an ambitious Rs.22,000 crore plan to rationalize traffic movement systems in the twin capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar and other major towns of the state.

"The strategy includes implementation of comprehensive mobility plans for Srinagar and Jammu cities at cumulative estimated cost of Rs.22,000 crore. The mobility plan for Srinagar has been finalized whereas the plan for the Jammu city is nearing completion," state Urban Development Minister Nawang Rigzin Jora said here.

"The plan also includes construction of multi-tier parking lots and bus stands, besides construction of expressway corridors and flyovers. As many as six projects costing Rs. 564 crore have been submitted to the centre for funding purpose.

"These ambitious projects on completion would go a long way to rationalize the entire traffic and transport system in the state and bring these at par with other advanced metropolitan cities of the country," he said.
