Police destroy opium crop in Jharkhand

Police destroyed opium crop grown on several acres of land in Jharkhand's Chatra district on Monday.

According to the police, standing opium crop was destroyed in the jungle area situated near Kari village in Chatra district, some 170 km from Ranchi.

The state police along with special commandos raided the village and destroyed the crop planted in several acres of land.

Police have lodged a complaint against more than half-a-dozen people for growing opium.

According to the police, the local people grow opium in connivance with the Maoists.

Maoist sell opium in the open market and the money raised by the sale is used to buy weapons.
