Actor Sibiraj, who will feature alongside a dog in the title role of upcoming Tamil thriller-comedy "Naaigal Jaakirathai", says he wants to recreate his love for dogs on the big screen with this film.

"I'm a dog lover. I have three dogs at home. When this idea of making a film with a dog struck me, I decided to go ahead and make it. The dog plays an important role. I've been looking for a different script for a while. I thought this would make an interesting film for the audiences," Sibiraj told IANS.

Sibi, who is the son of Tamil actor Sathyaraj, says he is confident about "Naaigal Jaakirathai".

"India is a country of many dog lovers. I'm sure people will enjoy this concept of having a dog in a lead role. Children will personally like the film as they instantly create an emotional connect with mostly any domestic animal on the big screen," he said.

The team is on the lookout for a trained dog.

"We're still looking for a trained dog, preferably a German Shepherd, but it all depends on what we get. We hope to find one soon. In the interim, we will zero in on the rest of the cast," said Sibi, who will also be producing the film under his home banner.

"This film will be the first of many projects I intend to produce. As a producer, I want to back projects with interesting scripts since I believe nothing else is more important than a script these days," he added.

Last seen in a negative role in 2010 Tamil thriller "Naanayam", Sibi says he has been very selective about his work.

"I haven't come across any interesting films and that's why I was out of action. I only want to do films that are different and meaningful," he added.

"Naaigal Jaakirathai" is being helmed by Shakti S. Rajan. It is expected to go on floors in September.
