- RInfra’s EPC division executes 600 MW Thermal Power Project in Hisar
- Unit one achieves more than full load capacity in shortest possible time
- Synchronization of the first unit was achieved in record 33 months
- To benefit Haryana by adding 288 lakh units of energy per day and creating 15,000 job opportunities in the state
Reliance Infrastructure Limited, part of the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, today announced that its Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) division has commission India’s first 600 MW unit at Rajiv Gandhi Khedar Thermal Power Plant (RGKTPP) in Hissar, Haryana, and achieved more than full load capacity in a shortest possible time.
With this project, RInfra has set new benchmarks in fast-track commissioning of power projects in the country. Synchronization of the first unit achieved in 33 months, creating a record in the domestic power sector history for a green field power project of this size.
RGKTPP, with a total capacity of 1200 MW of two units of 600 MW each at a cost of Rs. 3,800 crore, is being set by Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) and executed by RInfra on EPC basis.
The project was awarded to RInfra in January, 2007. Extensive design reviews were carried out by HPGCL along with various consultants, including Central Electricity Authority, to ensure adequacy of the units to operate on indigenous coal with high ash content. To ensure quality, NTPC was also engaged as the project consultant by HPGCL.
The project involved massive construction of two Natural Draft Cooling Towers of 173 m height and 130m diameter, Chimney of 275 m height including huge concreting and Structural Steel works, thousands of High Pressure joints and kilometers of cabling works. It also involved massive logistics efforts of importing few lac Freight Ton of Boiler and Turbine materials including ODC consignments from China.
On the successful commissioning of the project and operation of full load capacity, Mr. S.C.Gupta, Director (Operations), Reliance Infrastructure said, "We are happy to commission country’s largest and first 600 MW Thermal Power plant’s in Hissar. This project will not only benefit the state by adding 288 Lakh units of energy per day but will also create 15,000 job opportunities in the field of construction, operations and maintenance.”
“RInfra has been associated with 85 per cent of the power generation capacity work in Haryana and is committed to develop the power sector in the state. The fast-track execution of project was possible by implementing excellent project management systems and extensive project review mechanism with full cooperation vendors, HPGCL and the Government of Haryana,” he added.
