A 50-year-old man was today killed when a portion of a building in central Delhi's GB Road area, which was being demolished, collapsed, police said.

The building was being demolished as it had been illegally constructed, they said.

"Aftari, a rickshaw-puller, was passing by the road when a portion of the terrace collapsed on him," said a senior police officer.

Two fire tenders immediately reached the spot and Aftari was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.

"A case under section 304 (A)(causing death due to negligence) has been registered against unknown persons and the matter is being investigated," the police officer said.
