A 74-year-old man was found charred to death under mysterious circumstances in his rented accommodation in Greater Kailash-1 area here.
According to the police, Kapil Dev Aryan has been living in the same house, M-38, second floor, GK-1 for the last 40 years. He earlier used to run a shop in Hauz Khas, but was now jobless. At the time of incident, his wife Guddi was not present in the house.
"The wife of the deceased has alleged that the landlord's family was behind the crime. A case has been registered on the wife's complaint and the police are questioning the landlord's family to ascertain whether it was a case of murder. There was also a dispute over the property of the house," said a senior police official.

A PCR call was received at 9.28 PM on Thursday about the incident. The landlady had called the fire service after she saw smoke coming out from Aryan's room. Three fire tenders took half an hour to douse the flames which had engulfed the entire room. Dev was 100 per cent burnt, said police.
As per police, Aryan was an alcoholic and a heavy smoker. He has been living without electricity for some time. He used to light candles and drink and smoke heavily every night.
His wife, who was living in Gurgaon with her married daughter, later registered a police complaint that her husband was set on fire. The postmortem report is awaited and further investigations are on, police said.
