Senior BJP leader and veteran trade unionist Vijay Kamble today said the state government should announce allotment of Indu Mills land in the city for the memorial of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar before December 6, the death anniversary of the late leader.

"I am happy that (BJP leader and minister) Vinod Tawde last week assured that the government was planning to perform ground-breaking ceremony for memorial on April 14, Dr Ambedkar's birth anniversary," Kamble said here.

"I request the senior government ministers to formally announce allotment of premises before December 6," he said.

A renowned German architect had started work on blueprint of the memorial, he said.

He also said that the birth and death anniversaries of Dr Ambedkar attract lakhs of people to 'Chaityabhoomi' in Dadar, but there were hardly any facilities for them. "The upcoming new memorial at Indu Mill, which is in the vicinity, will also provide basic amenities to the visitors," Kamble said.

The memorial will face the sea-shore and will have a research centre, a full-fledged library, etc, he said.

The centre will cater to the needs of academically brilliant children and will also provide them lodging and boarding facilities, Kamble added.

Without naming anybody, he said those who had "ruined" Dr Ambedkar's name should not have any role in the construction of memorial.
