An assistant sub-inspector was found dead under mysterious circumstances this morning, just a few yards away from his residence, police said today.
The body of Punjab Police ASI Prem Singh was noticed lying on Plah Sahib road, on the outskirts of the city, by his neighbours, they said.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Amrik Singh Pawar said that it would be too early to comment on how Singh died, since there were no such clues indicating murder.

During the preliminary investigation, no external injury marks were found anywhere on the body, except bleeding from the nostrils, he said.
It is a suspected case of brain haemorrhage, Pawar said, adding that Singh was promoted recently as ASI from Head constable, posted to Ludhiana, and was under severe stress for the last few days since his promotion was challenged in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Suspected brain hemorrhage may be due to immense mental stress, he added.
