Twelve members of the Bajrang Dal were today taken into preventive custody during their agitation held to protest against cow slaughter and for trying to enter the communally-sensitive area in the city, police said.
"Twelve members of Bajrang Dal were detained, when they were protesting against cow-slaughter and trying to enter in Popatiawaad area in the communally-sensitive Dariyapur area in the old city," police inspector V N Yadav told PTI adding that they were later released.
The protesters were detained as a precautionary measure to avoid any communal tension ahead of the festivities.

Bajrang Dal city president Jwalit Mehta, who had organised the protest, said that they had got specific tip-off that cows and calves are being killed in the area.
"We got information that cows were being slaughtered in the area, so we tried to protest against when police detained some of our members," Mehta said.
