'Butterflies of War', a film by young director Debanjan Majhi, will kick start the 2017 edition of International Short Film Festival Kolkata (ISFFK).

The ISFFK will be held from December 8 to 10 at Rotary Sadan here, a release by the organisers said.

'Awntorale Ananya' (The Two Companions) directed by Nilimesh Kar and Anupama Sirsalewala's 'Complain' are the other two direct entries to the festival, selected through a competition, aimed at bringing new film makers to the forefront.

The short films were selected by Bengali film directors Arindam Sil, Anindya Chatterjee and Kamaleshwar Mukherjee at the 'Short to Fame' screening event on Monday.

Young directors submitted their 30-minute entries in 'Short to Fame', in Bengali, Hindi or English languages.

Mukherjee said for budding directors, the film festival is perhaps the best platform, and now through 'Short to Fame', they are getting an opportunity for direct entry into ISFFK.

"I have always worked with new comers for all my films and admired their quality when it comes to expressing themselves. Now, 'Short to Fame', instituted by an FM channel, is bringing some able new comers to the forefront," Chatterjee said.
