Committee constituted for framing security policy of museums

A committee has been constituted for reviewing the security requirements and parameters for Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) museums and framing a comprehensive security policy for implementation in all the museums uniformly, the Centre informed Lok Sabha today.

In a reply to a question, Minister of State for Culture Mahesh Sharma said that once case of theft was reported in respect of Indian War Memorial Museum, Red Fort at Delhi in December, 2012.

This apart Government of Gujarat reported one case of theft from Museums and Picture Gallery, Vadodara in October, 2014, he added.

"A Committee has constituted under the Chairmanship of Administrator, National Museum, New Delhi for reviewing the security requirements and parameters with respect to various museums under the Ministry of Culture and Archaeological Survey of India and for framing a comprehensive security policy for implementation in all the museums uniformly," he said.
 

Responding to another question, he said there were 278 instances of encroachments in some of the Centrally protected monuments in the country.

Replying to a query, Sharma said, 815 cases of construction activities were allowed within the regulated area of Centrally protected areas in 2014-15.
