A day after a 30-year-old man died allegedly in police custody, station in-charge of the police station was sent to district police lines today and the case was handed over to the Crime Branch for investigation.
The action was taken against Station House Officer (SHO) Kishor Kumar of Bindapur police station after Manoj died there yesterday.
The case was also handed over to Crime Branch after family of the deceased today met top brass of the Delhi Police at the Police Headquarters demanding strict action against the erring policemen and a thorough probe.
Five policemen were arrested yesterday for allegedly kidnapping and murdering Manoj in Bidapur area of southwest Delhi.
A judicial inquiry was also ordered into the matter.
Head constable Bhoop Singh, constables Rajesh, Sudeep, Uttam and Arvind were arrested in this connection.
According to the police, the accused picked up Manoj yesterday afternoon in connection with a firing incident in the area which took place few days back.
Instead of taking Manoj to Bindapur police station, the accused took him to Old Matiyala police station where his health deteriorated. Manoj was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhayay Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
He is survived by his wife and a seven-month-old child.
Agitated over the death, Manoj's family members and relatives held protest outside Bindapur police station, alleging that the accused cops brutally beat him up, which led to his death.
Police said that protestors also vandalised vehicles of some senior officials, adding that a case of murder and kidnapping has been registered at Bindapur police station.
