Advocate General, in a petition, stated that cheques were ready in favour of the individual victims. He however said former Madurai District Collector U Sagayam is presently functioning as Managing Director, Cooptex and so Dharmapuri District Collector may be directed to distribute the cheques in favour of individual victims.
Madras High Court had on January 10 directed the government to pass order sanctioning a sum of Rs 7,32,07,715 crore within a period of two weeks, besides, directing to appoint Sagayam to assist Dharmapuri District Collector in disbursing the amount to the victims.
The First Bench, comprising, Acting Chief Justice Elipe Dharma Rao and Justice Aruna Jagadeesan, directed that Dharmapuri Collector distribute the cheques forthwith considering that the payment is ready in favour of individual victims.
