Female elephant electrocuted, cub found dead at Corbett

A female elephant was electrocuted today while an elephant cub was found dead at the Corbett National Park in two separate incidents in Uttarakhand.
A 25-year-old female elephant died when it came in contact with a high tension electric wire while wading through the Kosi river, Ramnagar Divisonal Forest Officer P S Shrivastav said.
The body of the pachyderm has been sent for a post mortem, he said.
In a separate incident, an elephant cub was found dead in Bijrani range of Corbett National Park.
Body of the three-month-old elephant cub was recovered from Phooltaal area of the range during routine patrolling this morning, park authorities said.
 
A post-mortem is being conducted to ascertain the reason for the cub's death, they said.
