Goa Legislative Assembly today passed a resolution congratulating the makers of 'Baga Beach', which won the best Konkani film award for 2013 in the language category at the 61st National Film Awards.

The resolution was adopted after members cutting across party lines praised the producer of the film, Pramod Salgaocar and director Laxmikant Shetgaonkar for making the film, which makes a statement on various happenings in one of the most famous beaches of the state.

Baga beach is one of the major tourist attractions in the coastal state.

"While congratulating the filmmakers, we will also ensure that the film is screened for the members of the Legislative Assembly after the current session is over," said Assembly Speaker Rajendra Arlekar.

"Through the movie, the filmmakers have touched the topic which needed much attention," he added.

State Environment Minister Alina Saldabha said the film was an "eye opener on the issues related to children on our beaches."

Micheal Lobo, a legislator in whose constituency the Baga beach falls, said the movie was an eye opener for Goa police and tourism department.

"The film has exposed several things which are happening around Baga beach. I want even locals to watch this movie so that they are aware of what is happening," he said.

Former state chief minister Digambar Kamat said that the hosting of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa has given boost to local talent, and the state government should help the local film producers.

Congress legislator Mauvin Godinho demanded that the film-production work in the state be given the industry status.
