The government has initiated various measures to strengthen consumer rights, Paswan said adding that his ministry is working on to amend laws to set up a regulator to address consumer grievances.
The amendments have been proposed to the Consumer Protection Act as well as the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986, he added.
The proposed Authority will have all executive and enforcement powers for redressal of consumer grievances and penal action against defaulting companies, the minister noted.
