The Indian Coast Guard here today launched three high-speed interceptor boats, to be used mainly for patrolling.

"Indian Coast Guard Interceptor Boats (IB)-- ICGS C-411, C-412 and C-413 were launched today," an official statement said.

The high-speed boats have excellent manoeuvrability and are capable of patrolling with 'endurance range' of 500 nautical miles, it said.

The boats have 'medium range armaments', and are designed for high-speed interception, close coast patrol, low intensity maritime operation, and search and rescue operations.

Gujarat's Additional Chief Secretary for Home S K Nanda, who was the chief guest for the launch ceremony, said on this occasion that threats to India's interests along its long coastline come in many forms, such as sea-borne terrorist attack, piracy, arms trafficking, etc.

Commander of Coast Guard Region (North West) Inspector General K S Sheoran too was present for the launch ceremony.
