Jennifer Aniston played Rachel Green in the much-loved comedy sitcom 'Friends' between 1994 and 2004, but the actress says she was nearly replaced just before the show aired.

The 45-year-old actress said that producers were thinking of recasting the role of Rachel Green because of Aniston's commitment to another sitcom on CBS - 'Muddling Through', reported People magazine.

Speaking at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Aniston said: "'Friends' came when I was off doing 'Muddling Through'.

"So there was a period where I had to stand out of the photographs for the group shots, and I had phone calls from girlfriends saying, 'I'm auditioning for your part in 'Friends.'"

However, 'Muddling Through' only lasted for three months in 1994, which meant that Aniston didn't need to be replaced in 'Friends'.

"They just took the chance that 'Muddling Through' would fail after the ten episodes they picked it up for, and so I just started doing this back-and-forth from Sony to Warner Bros for two weeks."

Aniston also spoke about previous reports that the producers for 'Friends' originally wanted her to play Monica Geller.

"They wanted Courteney Cox to play Rachel," the Cake actress said, "and unbeknownst to each other, I wanted to play Rachel and she wanted to play Monica. It worked out perfectly."

Aniston described herself as "the number one snubbed" after she failed to secure a nomination for her role in Cake at this year's Oscars.
