India appoints poet-diplomat as Nehru Centre Director in UK

India's First Secretary in Kathmandu, Abhay K, a poet-diplomat, has been appointed as the Director of the Nehru Centre in London.

Abhay, a 2003 IFS-batch officer, will succeed current director Sangeeta Bahadur and expected to join office in June.

Reacting to the appointment, Abhay told PTI that "I am honoured and humbled by the appointment."

The Centre, which started functioning in 1992, is a cultural wing of the High Commission of India and serves as a platform for Indian culture.

Abhay is the author of two memoirs and five poetry collections. His collection of poems include "The Seduction Of Delhi". He has also been honoured with the SAARC Literary Award and nominated for the Pushcart Prize 2013.
