Sikkim today observed the International Day of Peace through the theme of "Yoga for World Peace"in which enthusiastic school children participated.
Multi-faith prayers were also organised. A state level function was organised at Paljor Stadium attended by Governor Shriniwas Patil as the Chief Guest and Chief Minister Pawan Chamling as the Guest Of Honour.
School students from in-and-around Gangtok did mass yoga demonstrations followed by a therapeutic mass meditation session.

While addressing the gathering, the governor said that Sikkim stands as an epitome of peace in the country.
He highlighted that the state has set extraordinary standards in terms of good governance, cleanliness, harmony and added that this unique celebration of the International Day of Peace through Yoga is another milestone added to Sikkim's inspiring journey .
The Chief Minister heeded the importance of Yoga and pronounced that this initiative of the state government to solemnize the International Day of Peace through Yoga is directed towards bringing absolute peace and stability in the present world scenario.
While talking about the unifying charm that Yoga holds , the Chief Minister also mentioned that Sikkim is the first State in the country to induct the discipline of Yoga into the educational curriculum.
Around 1.5 lakh school students from all over the state participated in the Mass Yoga Demonstration and Meditation in synchrony .
