J-K: Tributes paid to Ambedkar on his 122nd birth anniversary

Rich tributes poured in across the Jammu region today as political parties and various other organisations observed the 122nd birth anniversary of the 'Father of the Constitution' Dr B R Ambedkar.

In a function organised at the National Conference headquarters here, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah paying rich tributes to Ambedkar, said that there might have been something in his personality that we still remember and revere him.

Pointing out that human memory was short lived, Omar said: "Our memories are very short, but something might have been their in his personality and in his style of working, in his honesty, that not only we remember him, but the country's highest recognition -- the Bharat Ratna -- was also conferred upon him."
 

Omar said that the real challenge which the society faces today is to how to work towards the path shown by Ambedkar.

Earlier, the NC members also took out a rally on the occasion.

Meanwhile, the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also celebrated the occasion at their party office here and termed Ambedkar as the "messiah" of the drown trodden, who were being crushed by the capitalists.

The state unit of the BJP also paid tributes to the Dalit icon on the occasion and felicitated SC/ST members.
